Close to 1,000 volunteers descended on City Union Mission this morning to insure a merry Christmas for over 650 families in Kansas City’s urban core as part of City Union Mission’s Mission: Christmas. Volunteers will deliver wrapped presents to families who shopped at the Mission’s Christmas Store. Each household will receive a food box, turkey included, with all of the essentials for a holiday meal. Greg Adams from Kansas City North has been part of the event for years and carries on the tradition from his father who served on City Union Mission’s board for many years. “Its tradition for us” said Adams who volunteered with his older brother. “We just want to insure Christmas for some families who maybe couldn’t do a Christmas this year”.
Dennis Chapman, City Union Mission’s Director of Development said the need continues to grow. “This year our No Family Forgotten will help over 200 families” said Chapman. “That compared to about 60 families last year so the need is really growing and Kansas City has really responded wonderfully. We’re so grateful for all of the continued support from our community at large.”
