After Monday’s Finance, Governance and Ethics Committee meeting, it was crystal clear to this news-dog whose corner Jan Marcason is truly in, and it isn’t this community’s corner.
This li’l canine had some back-throat chunks during the meeting as Marcason showered Union Station CEO George Guastello with praise and adoration for his “work” “managing” the Kansas City Museum. The advancement of Marcason’s ordinance out of committee basically spells the death of the audit of the mil levy that was ordered last March. Marcason made it clear that was the case with statements such as, “There should be no lingering concerns after this ordinance is passed,” and this doozy: “I know, I’ve seen the collections.”
Note to Jan: casting a gaze on some musty, old stuff is not an indication the mil levy is being spent properly. Marcason’s arrogance and “trust me” attitude are exactly what’s wrong with the process. Just because you say it, Councilwoman, doesn’t make it so.
The community needs to continue to pressure Councilwoman Marcason to pursue an audit of the mil levy. Residents should also call State Rep. John Rizzo to request his state-level audit of these public monies.
This is taxpayer money, Ms. Marcason; the citizens have a right to know how every red cent is spent. Instead, what we’re getting is more obfuscation from you and Councilman Glover. Such shenanigans only cement what this news-dog has said from the beginning. Neither of you have the community’s best interest at heart. The only purpose your actions have is doing the CYA dance for the Union Station Board of Directors, trying to save them the embarrassment that Guastello and his minion have caused them with this debacle.
