KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Over the next week, expect lane reductions and closures in the River Market area for streetcar construction.
One of the area’s most traveled streets, Delaware Street, will be closed throughout portions of the week, including both the Delaware Street Bridge and Delaware Street from Independence Avenue to Fifth Street, for prep work.
The River Market and the City Market, as well as businesses along Delaware Street, will still be open for business. Crews will also be installing a new water main during this time. Courtesy of the Kansas City Streetcar Constructors (KCSC), here is what will be closed.
Delaware Street Bridge:
- The bridge leading from the Central Business District to the River Market will be closed off and on as KCSC crews begin preparing the surface for the installation of streetcar track. Prep work involves mud jacking the bridge and requires closing first the southbound lanes, and then the northbound lanes of the bridge.
- Southbound lanes will be closed until Thursday
- Northbound lanes will be closed Thursday and Friday
Delaware Street — Independence to Fifth Street:
- Delaware, from Independence to Fifth Street, will be closed until 7 p.m. Thursday.
