More than 100 attendees gathered at the Kansas City Design Center earlier this month to learn more about the vision for Independence Avenue. Those in attendance included Kansas City Manager Troy Schulte, City Council member Jan Marcason, former Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes, Kansas City Police Department officers, Jackson County Legislator Scott Burnett, community members, among others.
The Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce partnered with KCDC to host a social after hours complete with refreshments and a presentation of the Independence Avenue Urban Vision Project by the KCDC students.
KCDC students have worked on the urban vision project since August, studying everything from bus routes to topography influences to density and more. Next semester, the students will compile a book of their findings and ideas on how to make Independence Avenue and the surrounding area the best it can be.
