Kansas City announced Kenneth C. Morgan as KC Water’s new water services director July 8. Morgan — who currently serves as deputy director of the Water Distribution Division for the Public Utilities Department in San Diego, Calif. — will begin tackling this new role Monday, Aug. 12.
Morgan succeeds Wes Minder — who left this position in December 2023. Since Minder’s departure, Kelly Postlewait has served as the interim water director.
Morgan has previously served as director of the water department for Fort Worth, Texas and as deputy director of water services for Phoenix, Ariz.
“Director Morgan’s extensive experience in cities across the nation will ensure our Water Department remains a national leader in the industry,” said Mayor Quinton Lucas in a press release.
“I am excited to assist Kansas City Water in providing superior services, enhancing innovation responses, and furthering the development of staff to the benefit of the customers being served,” said Morgan.
“Kenneth brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and best practices from several top-tier water utilities and cities in the United States. We look forward to his leadership here to build on our already high-quality operation in Kansas City,” said City Manager, Brian Platt.
Morgan has extensive management experience in various divisions within public utilities, including customer care, engineering and project management, field operations and strategic operations.
He has previously held responsibilities for direction and guidance of 24/7 water distribution systems — ensuring the training and continuous development of water distribution and collection system employees.
Morgan holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Mo., and is an active member of the American Water Works Association.
