Starting this week, the Kansas City Public Library is bringing back its Signature Events online for everyone at home.

The Library’s well-known public programming will continue to provide discussions revolving around authors and other individual speakers, usually streaming on the Library’s YouTube channel. Staff will facilitate so the question and answer portions can continue at these events.

The first two virtual presentations include a movie screening and author discussion.

• The Indie Lens Pop-Up series resumes Tuesday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m. with an online screening and discussion of the 2019 documentary Bedlam, which takes an intimate and sobering look at America’s mental health crisis. Producer Peter Miller joins experts from the National Alliance on Mental Illness in the virtual chat. An RSVP is required for this event.
• Clifford Thompson, winner of a Whiting Writers’ Award for emerging writers, discusses his book What It Is: Race, Family, and One Thinking Black Man’s Blues at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16. He looks at shifts in views on race – including his own – since the 2016 elections.
