Grab your lawn chairs and your groove shoes because this Friday the Kansas City Museum’s lawn is the place to be!
Brass Rewind will be the first of the Kansas City Museum’s three-part Summer Concerts on the East Lawn series. The concert will start at 7 p.m. on the east lawn of the Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone Blvd). Tickets are $7 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnics, blankets, or lawn chairs. Outside alcohol is not permitted. Those interested can purchase tickets here.
Brass Rewind features songs from Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Steely Dan, Tina Turner and more. Their upbeat performances bring an infectious energy to the audience that won’t want to be missed.
Co-founder of the group Jerry Hooper knew he wanted to perform from a young age. “When I was 14 I heard Blood, Sweat, and Tears for the first time. I went to their concert a little while after and was hooked. I told myself I would have a band that played that same music one day,” said Hooper.
The band and its members are based in Kansas City. “We aren’t just 13 individuals, we’ve become family,” said Hooper. The closeness of the group helps fuel their passion for performing.
The group primarily plays outside festivals and civic concerts. “We love playing outdoors. We don’t belong in clubs,” Hooper said. During the colder seasons, the band takes the time to clean and polish their act. “We are always trying to be better. We don’t do subpar. We are always learning and incorporating new music into our shows,” said Hooper.
Hooper, who grew up in Raytown, started the band in 2019. “When we play shows around KC, I’ll run into old friends or classmates. It makes performing all the more fun,” said Hooper.
