KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Inclement weather held off on Sunday, June 26, as Northeast residents gathered on the lawn of the Kansas City Museum on a cloudy but dry afternoon for the first Summer Concert Series performance of the season.
Performers from the Kansas City Symphony headlined the concert, but they got an assist from Harmony Project KC students, who joined the symphony for the first selection of the picturesque evening. Harmony Project KC program manager Carmen Espinosa swelled with pride after watching her students kick off the show.
“I’m like a mom. I’m half-nervous, half-excited, and half-crying,” said Espinosa. “They were wonderful. I think it just helps build their confidence so much. Hopefully, they will apply all that persistence and practice to their schoolwork and to their lives.”
Harmony Project KC students practice after school at the Northeast Community Center (544 Wabash Ave., KCMO, 64124). Interested in enrolling your child (between 6 and 12 years old) in the free Harmony Project KC music education program? Call (816)231-7738 for more information.
