Two charitable partners were awarded checks from the fundings raised through the 2021 Kansas City Ice Bowl.

The KC Ice Bowl is hosted by the Kansas City Flying Disc Golf Club (KCFDC) each year in January. The event’s purpose is to raise funding to fight hunger, have fun and connect the Disc Golf community. 

“We’ll have a number of people that are in the community come out to play a round of disc golf,” said President of Kansas City Disc Golf Chris Timko. “It’s not a competition as it is a way to garner money for charity.” 

The event raises money through friendly competitive tournaments, donations and raffles. All those proceeds then go towards charities in the community. The Bishop Sullivan Center and the Mission Project were the recipients chosen to be awarded with this year’s fundraising. 

Timko and KC Ice Bowl Co-Technical Director Rick Rothstein presented large checks to both organizations on the morning of Wednesday, May 12. Director of the Bishop Sullivan Center Tom Turner accepted the check on behalf of his organization. 

“I think it’s primarily helping our food pantry,” Turner said. The center provides supplemental groceries to the Kansas City community with their two food pantries in the area.

The money given to the Mission Project will help support adults with developmental disabilities who need the help of dedicated professionals as they take on the challenges of independent living. 

Bishop Sullivan was presented with a check of $10,300 and the Mission Project received one for $4,500. Timko said the money was divided based on how much each organization needed and how it could impact the most people.
