KANSAS CITY – A former bank teller at Central Bank of Kansas City has been sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison after pleading guilty to stealing nearly $400,00 over a period of  five years.

Stacey Lyn Crail, 42, plead guilty to one count of Bank Fraud on Sept. 12, 2018. According to court records, Crail and an unnamed accomplice were tellers at Central Bank of Kansas City. During their employment, from about 2012 until May 2017, they executed a scheme to defraud the bank of approximately $396,000 by removing money from the bank’s vault.

Bank rules state that at least two people are required to enter the bank vault together. Crail and her accomplice worked together to gain access to the vault, stole $100 bills from the money packaged inside the vault and replaced them with $1 bills. The two then made false and fraudulent entries on the balance sheet for their teller drawers.

Thursday, a U.S. District Court Judge sentenced Crail to 12 months and one day in federal prison, and must pay $395,195.07 in restitution.

Her accomplice also faces charges, but allegedly has fled the country and has not been apprehended.
