Once again the Jackson County justice system – a term used loosely – has shown its true colors and released a dangerous criminal back onto the streets to prey on law-abiding citizens. Deandre Buchanan, the notorious serial burglar who terrorized Northeast neighborhoods earlier this spring, was released back onto the streets last week despite the strong urgings of police officers to keep him incarcerated due to his aggressive and habitual criminal history.

This law-minded News-dog has railed against the prosecutorial paradigm, or lack thereof, in this backward-thinking county before, and this is just another shining example of how the system continually and systematically fails to keep citizens safe by letting dangerous criminals roam the streets on a regular basis. Buchanan, as we noted in our ongoing coverage of this issue, was arrested in early May and jailed on a $40,000 bail. A look at Casenet, the Missouri Court System’s web site, shows Buchanan already had three cases working their way through the court system in Jackson County for Trafficking in Stolen ID’s, Second Degree Burglary and Third Degree Assault. He was on release when he and his female accomplice, allegedly his girl de jour, wreaked havoc in the Scarritt Renaissance and Pendleton Heights neighborhoods, committing burglary after burglary, actually hitting some houses twice. After being caught inside one house in Pendleton Heights, Buchanan assaulted the homeowner just for good measure. But Buchanan is considered a “low level offender,” you understand, at least in the Liberal mindset of those who’d rather coddle criminals than invoke punishment on habitual offenders such as Buchanan. But the dog digresses.

In all of Buchanan’s cases showing on the Missouri Courts website, his home address is listed as Hope Faith Ministries at 705 Virginia. For the record, this is the address used by offenders when they’re technically considered homeless. Keeping in mind that the address listed on his rap sheet is a facility that doesn’t house anyone, the county courts ROR’d Buchanan with an ankle bracelet, meaning he can’t leave his domicile. Let that sink in for a minute. The county released a criminal on supervised house arrest when he doesn’t have a house. Once again, his victims must continually look over their shoulder in order to protect themselves from not only the criminal element but from the very county officials elected to protect and to serve.

Here’s the deal. This safety-minded news-dog has long contended, with example after example, that the court and justice system in Jackson County is a systemic failure and an actual danger to the law abiding citizens therein. It’s high time citizens vote out those who continue to advance the double-talk, psycho-babble status quo and vote in some non-political types with the will to fix the system and actually protect citizens instead of making excuses for the criminals.

Clarification: According to the Missouri Court system’s Casenet website, the address Deandre Buchanan was released to was 705 Virginia, the address of Hope Faith Ministries. However, according to a Jackson County source, Buchanan was not released to that address, but was released to another verified physical address. That source further indicated that a verifiable telephone number was provided with the county court system in order to comply with the county’s house arrest system.

In order for an address to be verifiable, the person who’s home the prisoner is being released to must provide a lease or a mortgage with their name as the lease or mortgage holder, or provide a notarized statement from mortgage or lease holder noting them as such.
