KANSAS CITY, Missouri — This week, residents might notice new street banners flying on downtown street poles. The blue “Home Sweet Home” banners showcase the Kansas City moniker and a baseball representing hometown pride for the Kansas City Royals, winners of the 2015 American League Division Series.
Now residents can fly the banners, too. In a press release announcing the sale of the banners to the general public, residents can stop by the north side of City Hall, 414 E. 12th St., and purchase a banner. City staff will set-up a tent this afternoon from 2 – 4 p.m. at Ilus Davis Park, with street parking available, and a half-hour of free parking in the Wolf garage at 11th and Oak Streets. Banners are $25 each, cash only.
Residents also can purchase a banner from 4 – 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Gregg Klice Community Center in the 18th & Vine Jazz District at 1600 John “Buck” O’Neil Way. Proceeds from the banner sales will help fund the non-profit City of Fountains Foundation, which works to repair and restore Kansas City’s historic fountains.
Residents may also enter to win a commemorative banner by participating in Kansas City’s “How Blue are You?” contest. Residents who show their true blue support for Kansas City, Mo., and the Royals may enter the contest by submitting a photo or a video recognizing the team’s performance in the playoff games. Post your creative efforts using #kctrueblue on Twitter @kcmo, Facebook or Instagram. Your photo or video may be featured on our social media accounts and on Channel 2, the KCMO cable TV station. Entries will be accepted throughout the World Series.
