Large strides were made July 7 for the Hispanic Economic Development Corporation (HEDC). HEDC cut the ribbon July 7 to the brand new Latino Tech-Net Computer Laboratory open to the public and available to further the classes held for the public.

“This is a smaller, more intimate computer lab. We could have a larger one but people get more attention and learn better this way; it’s more personal,” said Richard Zarate, director of HEDC business and economic growth.

People gathered around to watch Maria Barron share her personal success story with HEDC classes helping her further her business and knowledge with computers and the Internet. She’s now opened Mary’s Beauty Salon on East Truman Road and said she’s able to communicate and navigate easily on the Internet to promote her business through Facebook and email. She emphasized that HEDC and their classes played a major role in her success.

With this computer lab, more people can benefit from the provided classes, which incorporate Internet navigation, Microsoft Office products and other programs essential to navigating through the business and computer world, said HEDC Executive Director Bernardo Ramirez.
