An eruption of applause could be heard for miles as Healing House celebrated its 24 graduates, Friday afternoon.
Healing House — a local program dedicated to assisting individuals with personal growth and foundation rebuilding — holds graduation ceremonies the last Friday of every month, starting at 3 p.m.
Tears were shed, attendees embraced and cake was offered for its May graduates. While not all program graduates attended the ceremony, each name was broadcasted on the projector — ensuring all individuals received recognition. “This is family,” said Leigh, a Healing House graduate.

This program averages around 200 people in recovery at a time, according to Elise Hall, director of Healing House Recovery Community Center (RCC).
Leaders conduct individual assessments — ensuring all patients obtain insurance and required federal and state documents. Additionally, those involved in the program attend classes, where they learn proper life skills, among other necessities.
According to Hall, 90% of the Healing House staff is also in substance abuse recovery.
Within their first 31 days, leaders require all residents to join the outpatient program. This allows those in recovery to begin their job search and transition, following Healing House graduation.
The program will hold its next ceremony for graduates the last Friday of June.
