Ground was officially broken this morning on a new mixed use development at 2600 Independence Avenue. The new development stands on the site of the fatal, October 12, 2015 fire that claimed the lives of KCMO Firefighters Larry Leggio and John Mesh.
The development consists of seven, first floor retail spaces and fifteen, second floor, one bedroom apartments.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas pledged the city’s commitment to continue to honor the sacrifice made by the Mesh and Leggio families. “These are busy times,” said Lucas. “Sometimes too busy so I’m really glad we took a moment to step back and recognize the sacrifice that folks ha e made for our communities. Your father’s, husbands, sons, brothers, we won’t forget it and we’ll make sure other Kansas Citians don’t forget it,” Mayor Lucas said.
The project is slated for an August, 2021 completion barring any unforseen delays.
