Some of you might have noticed the bylines have changed over the past week. No longer are readers seeing the name Leslie Collins above stories that concern the historic northeast Kansas City. The name that now appears is Joe Jarosz.
Hi, I’m Joe.
On Feb. 17, I took over as managing editor for the Northeast News as Leslie departed for the Kansas City Business Journal. From the few people I’ve met so far, I’ve learned I have some big shoes to fill. And that’s fine with me because I have big feet.
My wife and I recently moved to Kansas City because she got a job with KSHB Action 41 News. We’re a media couple. We came here from the Quad Cities, living the past five years on the Iowa side in Davenport, Iowa. For the past three, I was a reporter for the Muscatine Journal, a daily publication for Muscatine, Iowa. Before I moved to Iowa for school, I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. And when I say suburbs, I actually mean the suburbs, not Gary, Ind. or just below the border of Wisconsin.
So, what can you expect from me? Well, after I figure out where everything is, I hope to bring you the news readers have come accustomed to expect from the Northeast News. I may have been reporting in a relatively small Iowa town the last three years, but news is news and if there’s one thing I know how to do, it’s write.
I look forward to meeting as many people in northeast Kansas City as I can, whether its for a story or if I’m just out and about. Since I’m new here, if you have any recommendations for food, sites or things to do, please let me know, especially if it’s for food.
