Four teen girls were arrested Wednesday after a fight broke out on a Northeast High School bus.

A bus driver called police just after noon (the school had early release Wednesday), stating several students were fighting and trying to destroy property on the bus while it was near Lexington Avenue and Gladstone Boulevard.

When officers arrived, a girl tried to leave, and after being told to stop, she became belligerent, according to police, and was handcuffed. Her sister was handcuffed, as well, after trying to intervene.

Police called for backup when the students got rowdy, and soon after two detectives were assaulted. Four girls — ages 13, 15, 17 and 18 — were arrested. Lexus Lindsey, 17, was charged with assault, and Angelica Tiller, 18, was charged with hindering police.

Two other students whom police said were being disruptive were apprehended until their mother arrived at the scene.

One of the adult girls arrested said she was pregnant and was examined by emergency medical personnel before being transported to police headquarters. The juveniles were transported to the Juvenile Justice Center.

Police accompanied the bus back to Northeast High School, where the students were released to the principal. Once the school district brought in a new bus driver, the students were bused home.

Princpal Marshall Peeples said swift disciplinary action was taken. District Media Relations Specialist Andre Riley said he could not comment on specific disciplinary actions taken in this case, however, he said the district Code of Conduct applies to activities on school buses.

According to the Code of Conduct posted on the district website, physical or verbal assault will result in a student’s receiving a 10-day suspension.
