A four alarm fire engulfed an apartment building in the 1100 block of Benton Boulevard in the early morning of January 13, leaving a number of people out in the cold this morning.
The fire in the four story building broke out around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire was so large that additional companies were called in.
Two injuries have been reported, as firefighters did have to rescue some tenants from the building. Both remain hospitalized this morning, one in a burn unit.
Fire investigators remain on the scene this morning to determine a cause. As of Wednesday at 8 a.m., Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Kansas City’s Special Agents and Fire Investigators are on the scene working with KCFD and KCPD to determine the cause of the fire.
No fatalities have been reported at this time. A battery operated smoke alarm was still chirping this morning in a vacant lot across from the building.
