Instead of lamenting a staggering economy, the Ford Motor Company is investing $400 million in the Claycomo plant and increasing its production.
Ford will keep the Claycomo plant at full employment to support the production of a new vehicle, in addition to F-150 trucks.
Gov. Jay Nixon witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding Jan. 18 between Ford Motor Company and the Missouri Department of Economic Development. Through the agreement, Ford must invest $400 million in the Claycomo plant to upgrade the facility and accommodate the production of a new vehicle, along with retaining its 3,750 employees.
Due to this investment, Ford is eligible for the state’s economic incentives under the Missouri Manufacturing Jobs Act.
“In America, we build things,” Nixon said. “And when it comes to automobiles, nobody builds them better than Missouri workers.
“Today’s announcement ensures that next generation vehicles will be built right here in Missouri by the best workforce in the country.
“For thousands of employees at Ford’s Claycomo plant, and thousands more at suppliers across Missouri, this is a big win.”
