Learn about the early settlement of the Town of Kansas, now Kansas City, at the Kansas City Museum’s First Sunday Family Fun Day from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 4.
Attendees will also learn about the Town of Kansas’ first newspaper, the Kansas City Ledger, through experimenting with printmaking. Museum volunteers will teach attendees about the first telegraph service in the the Town of Kansas and sending messages through Morse code.
Those settling in the area could only bring a limited number of items on their wagon and attendees will learn the details of those items and view maps of the three major trails headed west. Make your own old-fashioned doll and listen to stories about life in the Town of Kansas in the 1850s.
The event is free and will be held at the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.
