This week our Faces of Northeast is Josh Rubio, an urban development intern at the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.
Rubio has lived in Northeast his entire life and now he’s working in Northeast, too. Rubio studies urban development at the University of Missouri in Kansas City (UMKC), so the urban development internship at the NEKC Chamber of Commerce was perfect.
“It’s close to home.” Rubio said. “I shop at these businesses everyday. I’ve grown [up] around them and I’ve seen some come and go. I want to see more businesses stay. They’re part of our community and I want to work with them.”
Rubio hopes to help local businesses through his internship by informing them of the programs that the chamber has to offer.
When asked what is his favorite part about Northeast, Rubio said it’s the diversity found here.
“There’s different types of art, in how buildings are built, how the city museum was built by immigrants,” he said. “[The] majority here are immigrants. They’ve created a neighborhood with businesses and cultures. It’s the multiculturalism that I really like.”
During his free time, you can find Rubio playing video games, reading books or watching movies.
