KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A surplus exchange, walk along the river and a giant yard sale.
These are the events you can find in the City Market during Earth Day weekend, May 3 and 4.
The Earth Day celebrations kick off with Bridging the Gap’s free Earth Walk. The 3-mile walk along the Missouri River begins at 9 a.m., with registration beginning at 8 a.m. The walk will take participants from the City Market Park at Third and Main Streets and travel east along the Berkley Riverfront Park.
Beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting until 1 p.m., the City Market has partnered with Surplus Exchange, of Kansas City, for an electronics recycling collection. Bring old electronics to the drop-off site, located at Third and Walnut Streets, to recycle the items safely. Last year’s event collected over 10,000 pounds of recycled electronics.
Surplus exchange charges $10 for CRT computer monitors and $15 for CRT televisions. All other items – such as fax machines, cell phones microwaves and cables – are free to drop-off. Items do not have to be delivered in their original packaging. Cash and check will be accepted. Resolution Reuse, of Kansas City, will also be on site to hold a collection for old clothing and textiles.
On both Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4, the ninth annual Community Yard Sale also sets up shop at the City Market. The yard sale, which will be held in City Market Park on Saturday and in the Market Square on Sunday, hosts around 70 vendors with antiques, collectibles and other gently used items. While all of this is going on, the farmer’s market will also be available for anyone who wishes to purchase fresh produce, baked goods and crafts.
