Advertising postcards such as these were used widely by automobile dealers from the early 1920s through the golden age of picture postcards, the late 1950s.
These two postcards, one produced for the Plymouth Motor Company, advertised the 1955 Plymouth Belvedere 4-door sedan and the other the ‘55 Dodge Royal Lancer.
The Royal Lancer was produced by Dodge from 1955 to 1959 and was the top of the Dodge line in terms of trim packages.
In 1955, it was available with a 270-cubic-inch motor. That increased in 1956 to a 315 CID “polyspheric” motor.
The Plymouth Belvedere was one of Plymouth’s more popular lines and was produced from 1954 through 1970.
The ‘58 Belvedere is one of the classic Plymouths, given the iconic fins that were added in the 1957 model year for styling purposes.
In 1965, the Belvedere made the transition from full-size to a more economical midsize car.
The line was discontinued entirely in 1970 and the Satellite brand carried forward along the Fury and Gran Fury, used largely by law enforcement agencies.
The Plymouth Belvedere postcard was sent by the Central Motor Company in Waco, Texas to Mr. Stephen Lyle at 326 E. 12th Street in February 1955.
