The search is on for a new Jackson County prosecutor and the public is invited to voice their input.
Jim Kanatzer, who has served as the county’s prosecutor since 2007, was recently appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon to the 16th Judicial Circuit as a circuit judge. The appointee will fulfill Kanatzar’s term.
The advisory nominating committee will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the MidAmerica Regional Council, 600 Broadway, Kansas City, Mo., and a portion of the meeting will be reserved for public comment. During that time, the public will be encouraged to share what they’d like to see from the next prosecutor.
The five-person committee will conduct candidate interviews beginning next week. Following the interviews, the committee will forward three applicants to Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders, who will make the appointment, which is subject to disapproval by the county legislature.
