Once again the Mattie Rhodes Center’s Northeast facility at 148 N. Topping is sponsoring a series of community events designed to better the overall health of the Historic Northeast community.

The Mattie Rhodes Center has partnered with the Kansas City Missouri Public Schools, Children’s Mercy Hospital to offer the School TLC Study to provide ongoing COVID-19 Testing to study participants at various locations in the throughout the Kansas City area.

Participation in the study is voluntary and test results, if taken at a Kansas City Public School, are only shared with the nurse at the participant’s school when a positive COVID case is identified.

The Mattie Rhodes Center, NEAT and the city’s Public Works Department are sponsoring a Household Hazardous Waste event at Northeast Middle School on Saturday July 9th from 8am til noon.

The free event allows residents of the city’s 4th Council District to drop off a variety of household hazardous waste items such as old motor oil, hazardous cleaners, pesticides, paint and a variety of other potentially hazardous items at a central location in the Northeast community.
“This is just part of our ongoing mission in the Northeast community to sponsor and promote events and services designed to increase the health and wellness of the neighborhoods we serve,” said Mattie Rhodes Center CEO John Fierro.

Come celebrate with us on Saturday, July 9th from 10am to 1pm at Lykins Square Park. Free food, games and activities for the entire family! Sponsored by the Mattie Rhodes Center, the Lykins Neighborhood Trust, The Gathering Table, Independence Blvd. Christian Church and Ripples for Change.

If mentoring youth is your passion, the Mattie Rhodes Center has unique opportunity to be a part of the solution, mentoring youth in our community. In a partnership with Kansas City Public Schools, this will give a K-12 student the opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with a caring adult. Training sessions are coming up in September.
