KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Spend your Sunday morning with local law enforcement.
St. Anthony’s Church, 309 Benton Blvd., is hosting a Blue Mass for police and emergency responders at 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, in church, followed by Coffee with a Cop.
The 9 a.m. mass will be in English and will honor, thank and pray for area law enforcement and emergency responders. Immediately following mass, police officers in attendance will host Coffee with a Cop, where attendees will have the opportunity to converse over coffee with police officers. The 11 a.m. mass will follow the same set-up, except will be presented in Spanish. Then, again, at noon, police officers will host another Coffee with a Cop session afterwards.
Rev. Paul Turner, of St. Anthony’s Church, said this is a tradition within the Catholic church that’s usually held around the time of the Feast of St. Michael, which is Sept. 29. Turner said St. Michael was a patron of people like police officers, active military and fire fighters.
“In conjecture with the mass, the Kansas City Police asked if they could host their Coffee with a Cop and we were delighted to do that,” Turner said.
