As part of the Annual Missouri Severe Weather Drill, the City of Kansas City will sound its tornado outdoor warning sirens at 1:30 p.m. today and the National Weather Service will sound the all-hazard weather radios.

This drill is part of Missouri Severe Weather Awareness Week March 12-16, as declared by the National Weather Service and Missouri Emergency Management.

Missouri Severe Weather Awareness Week aims to raise awareness about the most common spring emergencies that Missouri residents might face, including tornadoes, flash flooding and severe thunderstorms. It also seeks to encourage residents to prepare themselves in the event of such an emergency. The City’s Office of Emergency Management recommends developing a family emergency plan, creating an emergency supply kit that can last at least 72 hours, and having multiple methods of receiving important information to reduce the impact of a disaster.
