A twenty-one year old Kansas City man has been charged in the Saturday shooting of disc golfer Jake Riley on Saturday as Riley was taking part in the Kansas City Flying Disc Challenge.

Osman Ali Igal has been charged in Jackson County Court with one count of Armed Criminal Action and one count of Assault in the First Degree with intent to cause serious physical harm.

According to court records, Riley and his foursome were preparing to tee off when Igal began following them. After they threw their first shot, someone was heard to yell that someone had a gun, after which throee or four loud pops were heard and Riley was struck in the lower back by one of the shots. Igal then ran away toward the gate of the park.

Kansas City Missouri Police officers responded to the scene and witnessed the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. A responding sergeant witnessed Igal running away near Maple Blvd. And Lexington Avenues, roughly ¾ of a mile away from the scene. And began chasing him on foot. Igal responded to the sergeant’s verbal commands and was taken in to custody with a .380 caliber handgun in his possession.

Upon being interviewed about the shooting at KCPD’s Eaast Patrol Station, Igal stated he did not want to talk about it. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond. The final sentence in the charging documents states that Igal should be considered a serious danger to the publicbecause he walked up to a group of people he had no prior knowledge of and shot at them without warning and from a close distance.
