A Kansas City man is being charged for a fatal beating of a Northeast man on June 15, 2020 at Thompson and Askew Avenue.
Antoine Cotton, 40, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action, Jean Peters Baker, Jackson County prosecutor announced Wednesday.
KCPD responded to the area of Thompson and Askew Avenue on June 15, 2020, and found the victim deceased with severe head trauma and with a window sash weight located near his head.
Previously unidentified, the victim has been identified as Hoang Dinh.
According to court records, witnesses told police that the victim and Cotton had agreed to help lift a couch into the witness’s truck when Cotton began to hit the victim in the head with an object he picked up from the ground.
A witness told police that after hitting the victim, Cotton said, “I got him, I told him I was going to get him.”
FBI agents assigned for Operation Legend assisted in the case, according to charging documents.
The bail is set at $250,000. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
