connection with a double shooting early Wednesday morning near the
intersection of Winner Road and Hardesty.
Matthew D. Harris is currently in custody and faces two counts of 2nd
Degree Murder and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.
According to court records, early Wednesday morning, Kansas City police
officers were dispatched to a gas station at 5401 E. Winner Road and to
the Greenleaf Apartment complex just across Hardesty to the West on two
reported shootings. The victim who had been shot at the gas station left
the scene to the east, into a grassy area where he was located by
officers. He was identified as 36-year old Cleveland Fuller III of
Kansas City.
Upon responding to the second shooting call in the apartment complex,
Police located the body of 43-year old Michael Groves in an apartment,
the victim of apparent gunshot wounds.
Police executed a search warrant at Harris’ apartment which is in the
same complex and located a number of firearms. Following his arrest,
Harris stated to police that “it started at the gas station…someone shot at me so I shot back.” Court records also indicated that Harris appeared to be under the influence when we was arrested.
Prosecutors have requested a $400,000 Bond.
