Northeast Kansas City KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Oz had lions, tigers and bears. But this past weekend, the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce served up chicken wings, Mexican, and tiramisu. Oh my, indeed.

The fourth annual Northeast Kansas City International Taste and Tour was held Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Don Bosco Senior Center. Roughly 200 hungry area residents came out to sample international foods from 20 vendors from around the Northeast. After dinner, guests were also able to take a trolley tour of the Historic Northeast and participate in live and silent auctions. Proceeds from the event assist with the continuing business education and support of local international business owners in the Historic Northeast.

Bobbi Baker-Hughes, president and C.E.O. of the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, said the event is a way to introduce new faces and businesses, like the Safari Cafe, to community members. For more community engagement, each participating restaurant donated a gift certificate for patrons to bid on during the auction. Overall, Baker-Hughes considered this year’s International Taste and Tour a, “delicious success.”

“We’re excited about the diversity celebrated here by the volunteers, the crowd and the restaurants,” Baker-Hughes said. “This helps promote the international market place.”
