Give yourself a hand Northeast. You deserve it. If you were part of the small army of volunteers who helped fill numerous dumpsters with trash or brought tires to the tire trailers in Budd Park trying to make your neighborhood a cleaner, nicer place to live, kudos to you.
Preliminary reports show at least two trailers were needed to haul away spent tires and at least three additional dumpsters were needed in Indian Mound to handle all of the trash brought out on Saturday morning. The 10 city sponsored “complimentary” dumpsters were, as this newshound predicted, not enough to handle the overwhelming amount of refuse.
The only down spot was a city official sharing her less than delightful opinion with volunteer leaders saying: “I hate clean-ups; they teach people bad habits. Keep in mind this is the same bureaucrat who chided a local neighborhood association president after “Dumpstergate” was leaked to this news source. This news-pooch has only one thing to say to this ill-tempered, obviously disgruntled city employee. If you’re that unhappy in your present position and you think it’s fitting to chide neighborhood volunteers for trying to make their little corner of the world a better place to live, mebbe it’s time you find another line of work.
But, we’re too busy celebrating the success of Chalk Walk and the Bike Safety Rodeo to dwell on the negative. Thanks to everyone who came out and proved once again that Historic Northeast really is a pretty cool place to live!
