Prospect Avenue Bridge

MoDOT will be replacing the Prospect Avenue bridge over Interstate 70 beginning next week. This bridge has reached the end of its service life necessitating its replacement. The project also includes improvements to the interchange ramps and 14th Street.

During construction, Prospect Avenue over I-70 will be closed and motorists will need to seek alternate routes. The next closest crossing of I-70 are Chestnut Avenue to the East and Brooklyn Avenue to the West. All work is weather permitting.

Monday, June 19

Beginning at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, June 19, crews will close Prospect Avenue over I-70 until approximately late December 2023. During this time, motorists will need to seek alternate routes. This closure is for the total replacement of the Prospect Avenue bridge.

Wednesday, June 21

The right most lane of westbound I-70 will be CLOSED at Prospect Ave. for the installation of drainage piping beginning at 9 a.m. daily until 6 p.m. starting on Wednesday, June 21, until approximately Friday, June 23.The left most lane of eastbound I-70 will be CLOSED at Prospect Ave. for ground exploration and testing beginning at 7 p.m. each evening until 5 a.m. the following mornings starting on Wednesday, June 21, until Thursday, June 22.

Friday, June 23

Beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, June 23, until approximately 5 a.m. on Sunday, June 25, both directions of I-70 will be reduced to ONE LANE at Prospect Ave. and diverted around the construction via the on and off ramps at Prospect Ave. This work will cause traffic delays in the area. Motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow for extra time, or seek alternate routes.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
