This week’s Book of the Week was chosen by Samantha Edwards, Youth and Family Engagement Librarian at the North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library.
Samantha chose Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story written by Kevin Noble Mailard and illustrated by Juana Martinez-Nealis.
“Fry Bread is a warm, fun and cozy picture book about the making and sharing of fry bread, a traditional food found in several first nation cuisines,” Samantha said. “The story emphasizes, with powerful verse, the importance of food to culture and family, community and identity.”
The story is available in the library’s physical collection and also in eBook format.
