Nearly 40 competitors from across the U.S. battle it out at the Big Central Regional Barista Competition Jan. 18-20 at The Guild KC, Kansas City, Mo. Each barista had to expertly prepare and serve four espressos, four cappuccinos and four signature espresso-based beverages in 15 minutes or less. Going over the 15-minute time limit resulted in penalties. Judges included four sensory judges, two technical judges and one head judge. Winners will move on to the national competition in Boston, Mass., in April.
