KANSAS CITY, Missouri — John “JT” Daniels, local artist and Youth Development Coordinator at the Mattie Rhodes Center, had the privilege to expand his artistic abilities with the help of other adults last weekend at the ArtsKC building.

On Tuesday, June 2, he displayed his work for residents and co-workers to view at the Mattie Rhodes Center. Daniels created a drawing for the ArtsKC Regional Counsel with the help of nearly 50 adult students. Daniels did all the pencil work and his students followed their hearts painted inside the lines.

Daniels said the painting symbolizes many different things, the logo and branding are KC oriented and the logo which looks like the Royals logo at the top signifies the LiveKC logo. This work is especially important to Daniels because it is a big community piece. Daniels mentioned that the event went well and he was very proud of the end result.

“I was really stressed the day before and day of,” Daniels said. “Artists usually freak out when people work on their art.”

Daniels spent almost 10 hours on the painting, with an additional two hours coming from his students. Everyone put their own ideas into the painting. Daniels and his intern Harmoni Moore will put the finishing touches on the piece and hang it by Friday, June 5, on the side of the ArtsKC building, 106 Southwest Blvd., where it’ll sit for the next year.
