Angeline Ann “Nellie” McMurtry of Northeast Kansas City, Mo., passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Villa St. Joseph in Overland Park surrounded by family.
She was born in Black Rock, N.Y. to Fred and Stella Rynish on Dec. 20, 1908. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 1029 Bennington, Kansas City, Mo., with visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and a celebratory mass at 10 a.m. by Father Jim Taranto. Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Kansas & Missouri, 8837 Roe Ave., Prairie Village, Kan.
Angeline was employed as an ammunition supervisor at Lake City Arsenal, and later at Fixtures Furniture Company.
Angeline was a faithful member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and was a member of the women’s group Praying With God. She was an avid supporter of her community and was a volunteer for the Bishop Sullivan Center and an advocate for the Hazmat Station on Truman Road at Bennington Avenue.
She was a model for her family and community and will be sorely missed.
Angeline was preceded in death by her husband, Micajah W. McMurtry; her parents, Fred and Stella Rynish; and siblings Bernard, Edward, Fred, Genevieve, Monsignor John and Sister Julia Rynish.
Angeline is survived by her daughter Maxine (Lloyd) Smith; grandson John (Peggy) Smith; granddaughter Pat (Rich) Sabath; great-grandsons Rick (Jennifer) Sabath, Mike (Heather) Sabath, James Micajah Smith; and five great-great-grandchildren, Brett, Emma, Drew, Lydia and Riley Sabath.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: Our Lady of Peace, Odyssey Hospice, or Bishop Sullivan Center.
