Paseo Gateway public meeting
A Paseo Gateway public meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 11, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Kansas City University’s Butterworth Alumni Center (1750 Independence Ave.). At the meeting, Parks and Recreation staff will present design plans for the intersection. Staff will also ask the public to provide ideas for the design of the Paseo Gateway monument feature.

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Whatsoever Community Center garage sale
The Whatsoever Community Center (12th and Ewing) will hold a garage sale on October 12th and 13th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in its gymnasium basement.

 

Blue Valley Neighborhood Association Meeting
The Blue Valley neighborhood association will meet on Thursday, October 19, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Guadalupe Center (1512 Van Brunt).

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, October 13, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

The North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library invites the public to the library on Monday, October 16 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for an opportunity to brush up on the English language. Learn basic vocabulary, grammar, and usage. Gain confidence in using English in your daily life.

Zombie and Halloween make-up for teens
On Tuesday, October 17 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., the North-East Public Library (6000 Wilson) will help teens get into the Halloween spirit by teaching them how to make their friends look like zombies using make up and face paint.

 

Independence Plaza Council Monthly Meeting
Independence Plaza Council will host its monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 17, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Woodland Elementary School, 711 Woodland Ave., KCMO.

 

Graphic Novel Book Club
Head out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library for story time on Tuesday, October 17, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Join the library each Tuesday on the Children’s floor for stories, crafts and a lot of imagination. Graphic novel fans (ages 7-15) enjoy meeting up with each other to talk about books, as well as to get first hand illustrative instruction on how to create, design and illustrate your own comics. Parking is free.

KCMO 5-year budget meeting
Head out to the KCMO Health Department multipurpose room (2400 Troost Ave.) on Thursday, October 19, from noon to 2 p.m. to participate in a public input session regarding the citywide priorities that will serve as critical guidelines for the next five years. Participants will break into focus groups to discuss their goals and visions for the City’s future. They’ll also be able to see how proposed objectives are prioritized as well as help create policy and direction for the City by working with other residents to build and balance the budget. Knights of Columbus free movie night
The Knights of Columbus Cardinal Glennon Council #4613 will host its next free movie night on Friday, October 20 at St. Anthony’s St. Joseph Hall (3208 Lexington). Doors will open at 6 p.m., and a screening of Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein will be shown at 7 p.m. Hot dogs, popcorn, snacks, pop & water will be available for sale.

 

Boy Scout Troop 80’s annual chili dinner
Boy Scout Troop 80 will host its annual chili dinner on Friday, October 20, from noon to 7 p.m. at Holy Rosary’s Scalabrini Hall (910 Pacific, KCMO). The cost for adults is $6, while children can eat for $3. Price includes chili, salad, dessert, and a drink.

 

Northeast’s Fall Clean-up
Northeast’s Fall Cleanup is happening on Oct. 21 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The clean-up, organied by Northeast Alliance Together, will occur at Budd and Concourse Parks. There will be one truck for brush and two trucks for trash at each of the parks, as well as a trailer for waste tires (courtesy of ABC tires) at Concourse Park.
