Art in the Loop at Central Branch
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host Art in the Loop at the Library: Places! with Annettee Billings on Wednesday, September 13, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Billings will use poetry and prose presented in theatrical style to illustrate listening for, responding to, and acting on the cues present in our lives and communities for change. The pieces performed will demonstrate 1) upheaval as an opportunity to cue the best in ourselves and 2) uncertainty as a cue to hold fast to what is known for certain. Some of the pieces will be interactive to promote audience engagement.

 

Substance abuse recovery
A substance abuse recovery meeting will take place at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at New Beginning Apostolic Church. Contact Frederick Wilson (816-786-1981) for more information.

 

Kansas City Museum at Garment Museum
The Kansas City Museum’s new space at the Historic Garment Museum (800 Broadway) is now open. The KCMO Historic Garment District provides 3,300 square feet for exhibitions, programs, and events, and it is adjacent to Garment District Place Park. The Kansas City Museum at the Historic Garment District (KCM@HGD) will offer special exhibitions that display historical items from the Kansas City Museum’s collections and also present contemporary works by local fashion designers, entrepreneurs, and artists. General Admission to the Historic Garment District Museum is free. Special Exhibition Admission to the Kansas City Museum at the Historic Garment District (KCM@HGD) is $5 per person and free for children 12 and under.

 

Thursday, September 14

 

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Northeast Farmer’s Market
The next Northeast Farmer’s Market will be on Thursday, September 14, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 3001 Independence Avenue. Items to be included at the market are vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, and more. Live music and a dedicated kids activity tent are also featured. The market also participates in the Double Up Food Bucks KC program. Feast of Fountains comes to Concourse Park
KCMO Parks and Recreation is bringing the Feast of Fountains to Concourse Park on Thursday, September 14, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Enjoy the Concourse Fountain and feast on delicious food offerings from KC’s favorite food trucks, including Bochi Truck, Taste of Brazil, Estrella AZUL, Pita for Good and Polar Oasis.
Attendees can also enjoy live music by the Pablo Sanhueza Latin Quintetand other fun activities for the whole family. A portion of proceeds goes toward the City of Fountains Foundation to support Kansas City’s flowing treasures.

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, September 15, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

 

Knights of Columbus dinner/bingo
The Knights of Columbus Cardinal Glennon Council #4613 will hosts its next dinner and bingo night on Friday, September 15, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m at St. Anthony’s St. Joseph Hall (3208 Lexington). A bratwurst dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; salad and dessert will be included for $8. Cost for the meal is only $5 if you substitute a hot dog. Bingo follows from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Additional drinks will be sold for $1.

An Oktoberfest Exordium
Wake up early and catch the RideKC Bus 11 with your neighbors between 10:15 and 10:30. It’s a direct line to the Boulevard Brewery Tasting Room at 26th & Southwest Boulevard. Pendleton Heights Party in the Park
The Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association will host a Party in the Park at Cliff Drive’s Gate 2 (St. John and Brooklyn) on Saturday, September 16, beginning at 3 p.m. The event will include a bike repair workshop, a family bike ride along Cliff Drive, games, food trucks, a musical performance from Harmony Project KC students, and to top off the night, a screening of the 2016 reimagining of Ghostbusters/

The North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library invites the public to the library on Monday, September 18 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for an opportunity to brush up on the English language. Learn basic vocabulary, grammar, and usage. Gain confidence in using English in your daily life.

Graphic Novel Book Club
Head out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library for story time on Tuesday, September 19, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Join the library each Tuesday on the Children’s floor for stories, crafts and a lot of imagination. Graphic novel fans (ages 7-15) enjoy meeting up with each other to talk about books, as well as to get first hand illustrative instruction on how to create, design and illustrate your own comics. Parking is free.

 

Independence Plaza Council Monthly Meeting
Independence Plaza Council will host its monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 19, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Woodland Elementary School, 711 Woodland Ave., KCMO.
