Walk with ease club

At 9 a.m. at the North-East Library, this six-week course will teach participants how to walk and stretch safely, increase flexibility, and improve balance. Weekly incentives will be given to participants. Learn how walking can improve your fitness and help manage your arthritis pain.

Chair Fitness

Join North-East Public Library at 9:30 a.m. for physical fitness. No matter what your limitations, maybe you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to give you a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

My Kansas City: the Heritage & Legacy of the Historic Northeast

Join curator Michael Bushnell from 1 – 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, the opening day of the exhibition, as he leads a guided exhibition tour of My Kansas City: the Heritage & Legacy of the Historic Northeast. He will focus on the development of the exhibition including insight into his curatorial perspective, interpretive approaches, and his own experiences living in the Northeast for 25 years. Tours $5 per person (no rsvp necessary). The exhibition is located in the Museum’s Carriage House and is on display through Dec. 20, 2015. Exhibition Tours are free and self-guided from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday. Special Curatorial Tours with Dr. Chavez are from 1 2 p.m. on the following Saturdays: October 24 and November 14. These curatorial tours are $5 per person.

Knights of Columbus breakfast

Sponsored by The Knights of Columbus #4613, prices are rolling back to what they were two years ago when Breakfast was $5.50 adults and $3 for children under 12-years-old. Come on down for a home cooked meal with traditional Knights Breakfast offerings of pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausages, gravy over biscuits, and chorizo. Breakfast comes with coffee and orange juice. The meal runs from 8:30 a.m. – noon Sunday, Oct. 11, inside St. Joseph’s Hall at St. Anthony’s Church, 3208 Lexington Ave.

Diabetes self-management class

Find out how diabetes affects your body, make sense of your blood sugar number, meet others who have diabetes, have fun leaning in a small group though games, activities and supportive conversation. Classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 29, and run from 10:30 – noon, at the Don Bosco Senior Center, 580 Campbell St. Classes are free and open to Medicare Beneficiaries who have diabetes or are pre-diabetic. Mexican American Fast Pitch Softball Leagues: Connecting Communities Across State Lines

Curated by Dr. Gene T. Chavez and presented by the Kansas City Museum in partnership with El Centro, Inc., Mexican American Fast Pitch Softball Leagues: Connecting Communities Across State Lines is an exhibition exploring the rich history and legacy of Mexican American fast pitch softball leagues in Missouri and Kansas. This exhibition features a documentary film based on oral histories of former players and items from personal collections including photographs, uniforms, league documents, trophies, and other historical materials. On view from 1 – 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.

Fall Homes Tour

The Northeast Kansas City Historical Society’s fourth annual Fall Homes Tour will be held from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. The first floors of classic turn-of-the-century homes will be featured on this year’s tour, including the Kansas City Museum. The sales tent for advanced ticket pick-up and day-of ticket sales will be set-up on the lawn across the street facing the Kansas City Museum.
