KC Museum Hard Hat Tour

Take a hard hat tour of Corinthian Hall, the 100+ year old home of lumber baron Robert A. Long and his family. Visitors will see Corinthian Hall in mid-renovation, the bare interior of the building exposed for the first time in decades. Visitors will also tour the exhibit inside Corinthian Hall: Planning for the Future: Find History at Kansas City Museum. Admission is free and this week’s tours will be held Wednesday through Saturday at 10 a.m. and at noon on Sunday at the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.

Dressing Up in Kansas City: Rites of Passage exhibition

Join the Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd., for Dressing Up Kansas City: Rites of Passage. The exhibit is available by tours only Wednesday – Sunday, on the hour beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday – Saturday and at noon on Sundays. Admission is free. Through the Museum’s historic clothing and textile collection, it’ll feature artifacts illustrating the various customs of Kansas City’s shared heritage. Birth rituals, wedding traditions and mourning customs will all be highlighted with clothing that helped define each in their own time period. In addition, the exhibition will feature photographs of Kansas City residents all dressed up and documenting each rite of passage that came their way.

Join other adults at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., Kansas City, Mo., to play a variety of games at 10 a.m.

 

Friday, October 10

Story Time

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

 

Saturday, October 11

Computer Class

Learn what the Internet and your Internet browser can do. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

Historic KC Cemeteries Trolley Tour

From 2 – 4 p.m., join the KC Museum to see the burial sites of Victor Bell, of Long-Bell lumber fame, famous artist George Caleb Bingham, and many of Kansas City’s prominent figures on the Historic Cemeteries Tour of Kansas City, including stops at historic Elmwood and Union Cemeteries. Tickets are $40 per person. Purchase tickets online through kcparks.org. Search Kansas City Museum under the location box. The trolley will depart from the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.

Kansas City Digital Media Lab

The KCDML is open to youth ages 13-18 every Tuesday from 3:30 – 7 p.m. at the Kansas City Library. It’s a safe space for youth who are interested in, or want to learn more about storytelling and/or coding. You’ll have access to equipment and adult collaborators to learn, create, and grow. All of the adult collaborators have had background checks and are simply available to help youth take their expertise and interest to the next level.

POR LA VIDA!

Join the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., Kansas City, Mo., at 6 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 14, for free classes, presented by the Coalition of Hispanic Women Against Cancer. The classes will be presented in SPANISH. There will also be raffles, snacks and surprises. Child care will be provided. You will learn how to perform a monthly self exam, information about cancer resources in your community, and more. Additional class dates include Oct. 18, 21, and 28. The Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association will host its monthly meeting from 7 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences.

Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Park Build

Join the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association as a volunteer from 7 – 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, as the community builds a park. The Scarritt Neighborhood Association has been selected for building a new multi-generational playspace at Lower Concourse Park. The new playground is made possible by Humana Inc. in partnership with national non-profit KaBOOM!. The multi-generational playspace will include a one-of-a-kind playground designed by community members – from kids to adults – along with three pieces of adult fitness equipment. Building will take place rain or shine.

Indian Mound Neighborhood Meeting

The Indian Mound Neighborhood Association will host its monthly meeting at James Elementary, 5810 Scarritt Ave, at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20.

Community Curator

Join the Kansas City Museum from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, for a free presentation from Fashion Designer Kitty Sondren Snyder as she discusses design and creation of textiles and clothing. Guests will be able to tour the Dressing Up in Kansas City exhibition in Corinthian Hall prior to the presentation.

Eleos Coffee House Fall Festival

Join Eleos Coffee House, 3401 Independence Ave., from 2 – 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, for a fall festival. Admission is free. There will games for the whole family, as well as apple cider and barbecue pulled pork for $1.
