The organizations Communities Creating Opportunity and Aim4Peace are co-hosting a community conversation from 6 – 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Kansas City Health Department, 2400 Troost Ave. Special guest Frank Perez, executive director of the violence prevention initiative Cure Violence, is scheduled to join discussion.
Andrew Kling, communications manager with CCO, said the organization is excited to bring national attention to the work being done in Kansas City. Damon Daniel, the regional organizing director with CCO, added the group has invited public officials and law enforcement agency members to join the open forum.
“What we hope to accomplish [from the public meeting] is to share the best practices of violence prevention strategies that communities can implement,” Daniel said. “When you look at violence in neighborhoods, it’s much bigger than what’s on the surface. We want to broaden the conversation.”
