Independence Avenue businesses and the avenue itself will continue to be revitalized with the help of the newly passed Independence Avenue Community Improvement District.
From marketing to litter abatement to improving safety, the CID will fund a number of initiatives.
To celebrate the passage of the CID, the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce will host an Independence Avenue CID Celebration Friday, June 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Attendees should gather at the Dairy Barn, 2535 Independence Ave. The Chamber noted that the Dairy Barn will be open for pizza and ice cream and Sabor Central Americana will serve Honduran delights. In addition, local food trucks will be on site, as well as a DJ to play lively music. Art activities will be available for youngsters and area businesses are invited to bring flyers and business cards to promote their business. Kansas City Design Center (KCDC) students will showcase their study and design ideas for Independence Avenue at the former post office building on Independence Avenue. KCDC will also give a presentation in the former post office on June 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Beginning at 6:15 p.m., there will be a “special event” to further celebrate the CID and special guests will speak at 6:30 p.m. A ribbon cutting and cake reception will begin at 6:45 p.m. All are invited to attend.
