This week our Throwback Thursday goes back 21 years to the 
September 22, 1999 edition.

Front page news was the Northeast Chamber of Commerce annual Fall 
Festival that took the place of the old Italian Festival that stopped 
in 1992. Being on the planning committee for that event I can tell you that gettin the city to waive the fees to hand that banner over the 
Avenue…yeah,not so much. The guys at Station 23 took care of us 
though, just like they always do.

Also covered was the dedication ceremony of the Francis DeAngelo 
memorial bench overlooking the Gooseneck area of North Terrace Park.

Last week we wrote a story about the new Scimeca’s Online Delia in 
Northtown and lo and behold, twenty-one years ago we wrote about their store re-model at Independence and The Paseo. Look at that, Mary and. Fran behind the counter too!

Children’s Memorial Lutheran Church raised more than $800 at a 
spaghetti dinner organized by interim Pastor David Ebersole and 
volunteers from the congregation like Steve Richardson, seen here 
pouring on the sauce!

One of our proudest accomplishments was roping Historic Northeast native and accomplished Author Bruce Clayton to pen some old school 
Northeast columns for us here at The House of News. Bruce wrote 
Praying for Base Hits, an American Boyhood, a book about growing up on Thompson Street in Northeast in the late 1950’s. Bruce went on to 
become a History Professor at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA.

Look at the mugs on those guys, will ya? The Knights of Columbus 
servin up some of the best fried fish at a Fish Fry at Assumption, er, 
St. Anthony Parish.
