Police are investigating an early morning homicide near Quik Trip at 6835 E. Truman Rd. According to the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), on Wednesday morning just before 4 a.m., an officer working off-duty at the convenience store was flagged down by a vehicle pulling into the parking lot. The driver told the officer that his passenger had been shot in the neighborhood just south of the convenience store. There was already an EMS crew at the location, who began rendering aid. They transported the victim, a white male who was later identified as Anthony Strassle, 16, to the hospital, where he died a short time later. Detectives interviewed the driver to get more information about exactly where the shooting occurred. KCPD provided an update Wednesday afternoon that the investigation indicates that the shooting appears to have occurred on Fremont Avenue between Truman Road and 15th Terrace. Detectives are talking at this time with multiple people who were in that area this morning to try to gather additional information. "Crime scene investigators are processing the area to gather all evidence to hopefully lead detectives to the shooter or shooters," KCPD Public Information Officer Jake Becchina said. This homicide is Kansas City's 144th of the year, 44 of which have had victims under the age of 25. If anyone near this Quik Trip location heard or saw anything, they are asked to contact homicide detectives directly at (816) 234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at (816) 474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case. Shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, officers were dispatched to 3201 Independence Avenue in regards to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers observed two victims inside a vehicle that had crashed into a light pole in the parking lot of the Conoco gas station. The victims advised police that the suspect walked up to the vehicle and shot several times, then left in a vehicle. Both victims were transported to a hospital for treatment, and were listed in stable condition. This investigation is ongoing.
