William Carl Akers, Jr. “Duke” died April 21, 2011. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Friday, April 29) at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, Mo. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30. at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. A committal service will follow at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park. Arrangements are by Carson-Speaks Chapel.

Akers is survived by his wife, Judy McGonigle Akers; two sons, William M. Akers and Scott P. Hand; two daughters, Judith Anne Akers and Melinda Akers McNerney; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many “adopted” sons, daughters and grandchildren.
