I have been a dues-paying member of the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce for nearly 10 years, during which time I’ve also owned investment properties in the Historic Northeast. My involvement with the Chamber has given me something I value deeply—a seat at the table.
Through the Chamber’s Board of Directors, I’ve had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with leaders at City Hall and within Jackson County about what is best for our community. Those conversations matter. They give members a real voice and the ability to influence decisions that shape the future of the Northeast.
One of the things that makes our community unique is its diversity. The Historic Northeast has long been a place where new Americans come to build their lives. Our neighborhoods are multicultural, multigenerational, and constantly evolving—and that’s one of our greatest strengths.
The Chamber not only acknowledges that diversity, it embraces it. Our International Marketplace is vibrant because of the many immigrant and refugee-owned businesses that call the Northeast home. Their energy, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit are essential to who we are. Simply put, without them, the Chamber would not exist.
As a Board, we are committed to supporting that growth and ensuring all businesses in our community have the opportunity to succeed. We want to empower those who live and work here and make sure they know their contributions are valued.
I encourage anyone who cares about the future of the Northeast—whether you’re a business owner, property owner, or resident—to find a way to get involved with the Chamber. We are always looking for individuals who want to lead, serve, and help strengthen our community.
If you’re interested in becoming a member or taking on a leadership role, I encourage you to reach out to our President, Bobbi Baker-Hughes (bobbibaker@nekcchamber.com), or to me directly, (garylgoebel@gmail.com)
Together, we can continue building a stronger, more connected Northeast.
