KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Ramen is moving out of college dorms and heading to Columbus Park.

The owners of the Happy Gillis Café & Hangout are set to open the Columbus Park Ramen Shop to the community on Friday, October 9. The ramen restaurant will occupy a former garage adjacent to Happy Gillis Cafe & Hangout, at 549 Gillis.

Columbus Park Ramen Shop will offer several variations of ramen options, including Tonkotsu, Shoyu, Kimchi and Mushroom. Abbey-Jo Eans, co-owner of the ramen shop and Happy Gillis with her husband Josh, bought the garage next to their Happy Gillis restaurant because, simply, Kansas City doesn’t have ramen shops and wanted to make the noodles available to the city.

“We tried to play off the fact that you are in a garage,” Abbey-Jo said. “It still has that garage feel, but it’s a garage you really want to be in.”

Abbey-Jo described the shop as natural but fun. The ramen shop is decorated in a noodle yellow and has local artwork hung all around. The restaurant is open from 5 – 10 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays and 5 – 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
