
BREAKING — Just after 1 p.m., on Wednesday, June 18, Kansas City Police Department’s(KCPD) Accident Investigation Section (AIS) dispatched to meet East Patrol Division (EPD) officers at the intersection of Winner Road and Ewing Avenue on a reported vehicle-involved fatality.
Upon arrival, officers conducted an initial investigation, which revealed a white, Dodge Challenger was traveling westbound on Winner Road. Just east of Ewing Avenue, the vehicle proceeded off the roadway to the right, traveling onto the sidewalk and colliding with a pedestrian who was walking westbound on the sidewalk, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, late Wednesday evening.
After striking the pedestrian, the Dodge continued to travel westbound on the sidewalk before colliding with a metal light pole. The vehicle then moved through a fence and down a grass-area located north of Winner Road before it came to a halt, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Wednesday evening.
The pedestrian involved in the collision was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Challenger remained uninjured in the incident.
KCPD shared that this marks traffic-related fatality 34 of 2025 compared to 48 at this time in 2024.
This investigation is ongoing at this time as KCPD looks into potential impairment of the driver.
