Authorities have released the booking photos for Ashley Mack and Mia Shaw, the two sisters charged in connection with a violent shootout at a Northeast Kansas City smoke shop last month. While Shaw was taken into custody shortly after the incident, Mack’s mugshot was previously unavailable as she remained hospitalized under guard due to injuries sustained during the attempted robbery.
The shooting occurred on the morning of Saturday, April 25, at the Lit Smoke Shop near Independence Boulevard and Chestnut Trafficway. According to court records, the confrontation began when Mack and Shaw entered the business and began screaming at an employee.
Investigators say the women were retaliating because their brother had been banned from the store the previous day after threatening staff. Surveillance footage captured the women attempting to strike the employee before Mack allegedly produced a firearm.
The encounter quickly escalated into an exchange of gunfire. The store employee fired his weapon, striking Ashley Mack. Mia Shaw allegedly returned fire into the store while other witnesses were inside. Shaw then drove her sister to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle, where Mack was initially listed in critical condition.
Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson has charged both women with, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Criminal Action, and Second-Degree Burglary.
While both women were initially held on a $75,000 bond, recent court proceedings have seen a modification in their release conditions. Following a bond review hearing on May 6, the court amended the bond to $50,000 / ROR (Released on Own Recognizance) with strict conditions.
If they post bond, both defendants are required to wear GPS ankle monitors, remain under pretrial supervision, and have no contact with each other, their brother, or any witnesses. Additionally, they are barred from coming within 1,000 feet of any Lit Smoke Shop location.
Ashley Mack is now reported to be in stable condition. A preliminary hearing originally scheduled for late May was canceled following the bond modifications, and a Circuit Court Arraignment for both sisters has been set for June 9, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Criminal Justice Center.
Charges are only accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are either found guilty or plead guilty.
